Computer Labs

As we all know Information Communication Technology is a word commonly seen and heard everywhere –particularly in education. A good way to think about ICT is to consider all the users of digital technology that already exist to help individuals, businesses and organizations that use information. Today we cannot step into society without the knowledge of ICT, because most of the activities are done using the knowledge of ICT.

Seeing the importance of this at HFC, ICT is a part of the school curriculum. The computer lab was newly built and opened for the first time in the year 2002, with the help of the PTA committee of that year.

The lab was started with only 20 computers and now has a total of 42 computers. The school computer lab now provides many facilities for the students which enable them to gain more interest in the subject. There is a multi- media projector which helps the teachers to do their practical sessions easily. Internet facilities have been provided to all computers so that students have a good understanding of modern technologies. All computers are connected to a school network so that information interchange between students is very effective. There is also a common printer and scanner.

Classes from grades 08 and above are conducted at the college lab. Students can offer ICT for ordinary level examination and GIT and ICT subject for Advanced Level examination with the help of the college ICT teachers Ms. Dilini Jayamaha, Ms Sharmini Derrick, Ms Sanduni Joseph and Ms Saranya Nicholas. This task is done successfully with the modern technology provided to the students.

Classes in between grade 03 to grade 08 are conducted at the primary computer lab which was refurbished and opened by His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith on the first of February 2013,There are about 40 computers equipped with latest software for the children’s educational purposes.

Here children learn to use application software such as Word Processors, Spreadsheet, Database and Presentation. They learn computer graphics like Microsoft Paint too. Further, they develop computer programming skills with the use of programming languages like Visual Basic, Pascal and Python. GIT is now a compulsory subject at Advanced Level.
