Supatha Day

The Supatha Day is where all Supatha members come together from different schools. The traditions of this get-together is to rotate organizing the get-together within three schools. Holy Family Convent Bambalapitiya, Holy Family Convent Kaluthara and St. Josephs Girls Nugegoda. The purpose of this event is to deepen ourselves in the Family Spirit among the Holy Family Youth for the mission of communion. This time it was our turn to organize the event at Holy Family Convent Bambalapitiya.

The Supatha Day was held on 6th of  May 2017 in the Green hall at Bambalapitiya Holy Family Convent at 8.00 a.m-2.00 p.m. We,53 members participated in this day:36 from Bambalapitiya, 5 from Thudella, 5 from Kaluthara, 7 from Nugegoda and each group was accompanied by their Sister in charge of Supatha.

The theme of the day was ''සුපසන් වු නව ලොවක් කරා''. The programme was begun with a prayer service including a presentation which told about the PBN family. After the welcome speech by the president and the vice president and lightening the oil lamp, the purpose of the day was explained to the group. Then Sr. Euphrasia addressed the gathering and she remembered the words of Pope Francis. ''It is youth who can change the world.''Her words gave a meaningful beginning for the day.

The resource person for this day was Rev. Fr. Randil Fernando and the group. First it was time to get to know each other. We were divided into small groups where we shared about ourselves according to a short video clip. During the session which was conducted by father and the group we were inspired to see the reality of the modern world and to step forward balancing our education together with extra-curricular activities in the journey of Supatha. They explained their life experiences about how they managed to overcome difficulties without making any harm for the education and how they faced challenges in the social world. Since we have get together with different schools it was a good chance for us to deepen our relationship among the other members of the youth. Even during our morning break we were divided as pairs mixed with different schools.

At the end of the second session some games and entertainment were conducted by Father to increase the unity among each other. Afterwards we sat together for a short time to evaluate the day.

Following are some feedback expressed by the youth.

  • ''We met different nationalities but we didn’t have any communication issues.''
  • ''Though we were from different schools we were very united with everyone.''
  • ''We learnt to work as a group having patience to understand each and everyone''
  • ''We were strengthened to face challenges in the society.''
