Awareness Programme For Grade 11 Students & Parents On “Cyber Security”
AWARENESS PROGRAMME FOR GRADE 11 STUDENTS & PARENTS ON “CYBER SECURITY”
“The Internet allows for access to information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Along with the benefits the Internet brings, however, come costs such as new threats to students. Children today spend a substantial amount of time online for either educational purposes or entertainment. The internet offers many opportunities and poses several risks. Given their age, it is difficult for them to assess the opportunities and risks of using the internet and digital systems.
Cyberbullying, Inappropriate Content, Oversharing, Online Predation etc. are namely few cyber threats. These threats can lead to depression and anxiety, health complaints, and decreased academic achievement by the students.”
In line with the above information a special programme was held on the 25th of January, 2022 for the students and the parents of the Grade 11 students. A team from the Bambalapitiya police gave instructions to the parents about how to protect their children while they are active on the internet. Videos were also shown regarding undesirable experiences school children have had in the past.
At the end, The Principal, Rev. Sr. Ranjanie Silva spoke to the parents and had a Question and Answer Session where the parents could clarify any doubts they had regarding their children’s school life.
Overall, it was a very informative session which had a positive impact on the parents.
