Celebrating 114 years of excellence
The school day of Holy Family Convent Bambalapitiya was held on Friday, the 3rd of February in celebration of our 114th anniversary. All students and teachers were gathered in the school quadrangle for the celebration of this special day. A prayer service was held for the adoration of the Holy Eucharist; in thanksgiving for the miraculous apparition in the Eucharist of 1822.
The second segment for the day was followed by the hoisting of the National flag by Rev. Sr. Deepa Fernando and the school flag by the head prefect Trisha Dias, in celebration of the Independence Day. Four candles were lit and passed down to four prefects representing each ethnicity, signifying unity and peace in the country.
The third event of the day was the launching of the vision and mission statements which was officially done by Rev. Sr. Deepa Fernando. Students were given bookmarks with the vision and mission of our school printed on them. The day was celebrated amidst the music, food and dancing.
Along with the senior school primary school also celebrated both school day and Independence Day on the 3rd of February 2017.
The smell of incense filled the air as the Tamil medium students clad in traditional costume swayed to the sound of the hymn with sticks of incense in their hands. A religious service followed with adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, bible reading and reflection.
The hoisting of flags took place next with Rev.Sr.Jesicca and hoisting the national flag was hoisted by Rev.Sr.Nivetha.
The students demonstrated their unity by holding hands and singing the song “Lowe Sama”while eight students dressed to represent the four main races of our country came forward.
Several students dressed as national heroes of our past who fought tirelessly for our independence, came forward and gave a brief description about themselves and the role they played.The students then returned to their classes.
The blessing of the newly constructed playground took place subsequently.
