Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya was founded in the year 1903 by the Sisters of the Holy Family Congregation of Bordeaux. The school, which started with a small group of students and few nuns, has developed magnificently achieving excellence, and shines radiating love amidst the vim, vigour and vitality of youth. Throughout 118 long years the Holy Family Congregation has succeeded in maintaining the ideals of the Holy Family of Nazareth, mainly due to their dedication, adaptability and infinite faith in Divine Providence. Today it stands proud among the prestigious Girls’ Schools of Sri Lanka.
Holy Family Convent is a semi government school which provides primary and secondary education to girls between the ages of 5 years to 18 years. Holy Family Convent comes under the purview of the Ministry of Education and the school functions within the framework of the National Education Policy.
We, as a Catholic Girls’ School, advocate a religious environment in the school, and maintain excellence in imparting a holistic, integral and inclusive Catholic education to our students. Discipline and Christian life formation plays a pivotal role in our system of education.
Pope Francis I declared, “You must not teach just content, but the values and customs of life. There are things that you must transmit: how to love, how to understand which values and customs create harmony in society.” Summing up the importance of Catholic education he also stated; “You cannot speak of Catholic education without speaking of humanity.”
The responsibility of educating the young in a rapidly changing society integrated with Science and Technology is a mighty task. Children face may challenges in society and the school endeavours to keep abreast with the changes by tutoring them to meet the challenges while promoting treasured Christian values.
We believe that education should be multi-faceted and inclusive, and we should attempt to develop within the pupil not only her dreams and goals but also a sense of respect and service towards fellow human beings, especially the disadvantaged and the marginalized. It means educating our pupils for active participation in the creation of an inclusive society where differences stemming from ethnicity, religion and culture are identified, respected and accepted.
To reiterate our role, we encourage our student to reach out beyond the walls of the classroom, while enriching their personalities and keeping up to date with knowledge and methodology of the rapidly changing world.
The balanced education provided by us includes co-curricular and extra-curricular activities which give them vital exposure to the needs of the society while creating in them an awareness that they can contribute creatively and constructively towards building a better world.
Our teachers are diligent, and committed to work with a passion. They are academically qualified and highly experienced in their respective fields of study. The Management continually encourages them to be innovative in their teaching and enhance their academic qualifications.
Holy Family Convent, located in a salubrious environment, possesses meticulously maintained buildings and modern facilities which help the students to improve their academic, aesthetic, athletic, and a wide variety of additional skills.
Holy Family Convent has achieved excellence in every field, producing a countless number of Familians who perform brilliantly in their respective professions and has brought glory to their Alma Mater and their motherland. Simplicity, modesty and charity are special qualities of a Familian; We are always committed to inculcate these qualities in each and every one of our students to ensure they grow up to be wholesome individuals.
Light up the world with women of virtue and wisdom
To create, nurture and promote a warm holistic learning community in which every Familian may progress and reach her full potential in the spirit of modesty, simplicity, honesty and charity.
These words encompass our responsibilities, duties and values.
May God Bless You!
