A Candle That Lit Many Flames — In Loving Memory of Ms. Shiranee Doss
A Candle That Lit Many Flames — In Loving Memory of a Guiding Light
Some people enter our lives quietly… yet their impact resonates in our hearts forever. Ms. Doss was one such extraordinary soul—graceful in spirit, courageous in thought, and endless in the care she extended to all around her.
To generations of students at Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya, she was far more than an administrator or a leader defined by a title. She was the sanctuary of comfort many ran to, the voice of reason in moments of uncertainty, and the warmth that gave courage to young hearts.
Her role at our school wasn’t only meaningful—it was historic.
In the 1970s, Ms. Doss became the very first Lay (non-religious) Vice Principal of Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya, This remarkable milestone, achieved at a time when school leadership roles were traditionally held by members of the religious, reflected her brilliance, dedication, and the immense trust placed in her visionary leadership.
How can one put into words a person who gave us so much?
She was a mother who protected us, not only with authority but with genuine love.
She was the mentor who saw potential where we saw none.
She was a friend who listened, a teacher who molded minds, and a guide who steadied souls.
A storyteller, entertainer, disciplinarian, and healer of troubled hearts—she embodied a rare harmony of strength and softness.
And above all—she carried her timeless signature:
A smile that made every child feel seen, loved, and safe.
Her values were timeless, yet her thinking was modern, daring, and brave. Even in her later years, she remained ahead of her time—challenging us to rise above limits, stand by what is right, and walk through life with compassion and integrity.
Her memory lives on in:
-
The way we choose honesty with courage
-
The way we stand tall through storms
-
The way we care for others a little more deeply
-
The way we love others a little more gently
because she taught us how to be human first, before anything else.
Ms. Doss, your light still guides us.
Your voice still reflects in us.
Your values still live through us.
We honour her not just for the chapters she taught in classrooms, but for the lives she rewrote beyond them.
Thank you, beloved teacher…
for the lessons, the laughter, the guidance, the comfort, and even the tears that shaped us.
You were our candle,
and you lit so many flames.
You have not just departed—
you have multiplied.
May your soul rest in eternal peace, our guiding light.
Your legacy will continue to glow—not in silence, but in the lives you transformed.
With deepest love and unwavering gratitude,
The Holy Family Convent Community, Bambalapitiya
