A Day of Triumph and Unprecedented Tie at HFC’s Inter-House Sports Meet 2025

The Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya, recently witnessed a day of unparalleled excitement and sporting spirit at its Annual Inter-House College Sports Meet. The event, marking the first major school gathering of the calendar year, unfolded on Friday, 7th of March at 8:00 AM with a vibrant opening ceremony.

The ceremony commenced with the Guest of Honour, Dr. Mihiri Weerasekara, the School Games Captain of 2011, being warmly welcomed, followed by the hoisting of the National, School, and the five House flags, symbolising unity and pride.

As the first events, including relays and individual running events, began, the school grounds transformed into a kaleidoscope of colours. The creatively decorated house tents and the spirited students, attired in their respective house colors, created an electrifying atmosphere.

Mid-day brought another special moment as the school’s Senior Western Band gracefully welcomed the Chief Guest, past Familian Mrs. Bhakthi Anushka de Silva, the School Games Captain of 1996.

The afternoon’s programme was further enriched by the inclusion of invited school relays, the captains’ race, the past pupils’ race, and the ever-popular staff race, all of which captivated the audience.

As the day progressed, the meticulously prepared squads lined up for the closing ceremony. The performances by the school’s Eastern and Western bands were truly remarkable, setting a graceful tone for the final segment of the event.

The moment of truth arrived as the results were announced, and history was made. For the first time, a tie for the Champion House was declared. The Yellow and Green Houses shared the coveted first place, a testament to their unwavering dedication and athletic prowess. Adding to the day’s remarkable achievements, Carmel House, surged from last year’s fifth position to secure a shared first place, a truly inspiring feat.

The final rankings were as follows:

  • 1st Place (Tie)  : Yellow House & Green House
  • 3rd Place           : Rose De Lima House
  • 4th Place           : Ambrose House
  • 5th Place           : Sebastian House

The day concluded with the singing of the school song and the national anthem, leaving behind a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie. The event was a true celebration of talent and teamwork.
