A Night Under the Stars: HFC’s Epic Night Sky Observation Camp.
On March 14th, 2025, the long-awaited Night Sky Observation Camp, organized by the Astronomical and Aeronautical Club of HFC, finally became a reality. With the O/L examination break commencing on that very same day, the school setting took on an extraordinary adventurous mode, with students from grade 6 to A/L’s arriving with mats and other paraphernalia, ready to spend the night in their beloved “second home.” Excitement and thrill was unmistakably the order of the day.
Registration commenced at 4:00 PM, and by 5:30 PM, the main programme began. Esteemed guests, including the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour, were warmly welcomed and escorted to the auditorium. The traditional lighting of the oil lamp marked the official commencement of the evening’s proceedings.
Following inspiring speeches from the Principal, Guest of Honour, and Chief Guest, the crowd eagerly awaited the opportunity to observe Jupiter. However, a blanket of clouds temporarily obscured the view. Undeterred, the students remained hopeful. As if on cue, a gentle drizzle, like a celestial blessing, began to clear the sky towards dawn. While waiting for the sky to clear, the girls enthusiastically engaged in a hands-on activity, constructing water rockets and demonstrating their passion for aeronautics.
A delicious, warm, “school-made” dinner recharged the starwatchers, banishing any lingering sleepiness. With newfound energy, the students gathered for an insightful introduction to the night sky, led by knowledgeable instructors. The moon, now clearly visible, became a captivating focal point, alongside numerous star patterns, revealing the vastness of the universe.
As dawn approached, the students, who had arrived on the 14th, were still present wide eyed and thrusiastic on the 15th, a testament to their dedication. Many students remained sleepless with excitement, eager to continue their celestial exploration.
As the observation camp drew to a close, the students launched their meticulously crafted water rockets, sending them soaring into the morning sky. Finally, a hearty breakfast was provided, replenishing the students after their long night of stargazing.
This remarkable event was a testament to the dedication and hard work of the teachers in charge of the Astronomical and Aeronautical Club, the committee members, the teachers who stayed overnight to assist, the science teachers, and the invaluable school web team. Their collective efforts ensured the camp’s resounding success.
The Night Sky Observation Camp, lasting nearly 12 hours, was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved, marking a significant milestone for the Astronomical and Aeronautical Club of HFC.
It was a night of discovery, camaraderie, and wonder, leaving a lasting impression on all who participated.
