Remembering Sr Mary Slaven

With gratitude and love, we remember Sr. Mary Slaven, a remarkable woman of faith, courage, and vision.

Appointed Superior General in 1981, succeeding Sr. Marie Paul Chauvin, she led the Institute during a crucial period of renewal following the Second Vatican Council. With wisdom and patience, she guided the revision of the Constitutions, inspired by the vision of our Founder, Fr. Pierre Bienvenu Noailles. When the Constitutions were approved in 1988, she described them as the fruit of more than twenty years of prayer, research, and participation by all the Sisters.

Sr. Mary remained closely connected to Sri Lanka and had a deep love for our people. During the height of the war, she courageously visited the sisters in Jaffna, bringing comfort and hope in a time of great difficulty. Her presence was a powerful sign of solidarity and God’s providence.

She also nurtured the spiritual life of the Family through her personal letters and her commitment to sharing the Founder’s writings with every member worldwide.

Today, we remember her with deep gratitude. Her strength, faith, and vision continue to inspire us.

Rest in God’s eternal peace, dear Sr. Mary Slaven.
Your legacy lives on.
